COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning): An Innovative, Economical Approach to Expanding Access to International Education through Technology

COIL courses connect your students to international peers so they can collaborate on joint projects from their university classrooms. COIL practices are now being recognized as an important addition to the internationalization toolkit, but few SIOs and international education staff or faculty have significant experience with this format. This session will be an opportunity to learn about the model and its implementation from three leading COIL practitioners. In addition to describing the COIL model and giving examples of its implementation, this session will address the process of embedding COIL courses into the curriculum, providing training, linking it to short-term study abroad, and getting administrative buy-in.
