Leading Change in a Changing Climate

2024 Global Sustainability Challenge

CIEE is committed to developing programs that teach students how to address the many climate and environmental challenges we face as a global community.

CIEE seeks advice from experts on climate/environment/sustainability on what to offer, and where to offer, a comprehensive portfolio of programs that engage learners in understanding the multi-faceted challenges associated with climate change.

The proposed program portfolio will:

  • expose students to the complex intersection of climate science, research, history, economics, politics, and the cultural implications of threats to our environment
  • encompass a diverse range of programs, enabling students from all backgrounds and academic majors to gain knowledge about the science and solutions essential for fostering a more sustainable and peaceful world
  • include program locations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East

To address the threats of climate change effectively, efforts must focus on both immediate and long-term solutions. Global education programs that promote these solutions should involve stakeholders from multiple generations.

Proposals should include scalable study abroad experiences, collaboratively designed by two different U.S. universities, tailored for college students to focus on climate change in various international contexts.
