Luvuyo Rani

Luvuyo Rani is a South African social entrepreneur, business leader and ecosystem builder committed to using entrepreneurship, technology and social innovation to create economic opportunities for underserved communities. 

He is the Founder of Silulo Ulutho Technologies, a township-focused technology business that has expanded access to digital services and created entrepreneurial and employment opportunities across South Africa. Through his work with Silulo, Luvuyo has demonstrated how businesses can combine commercial sustainability with meaningful social impact. 

In 2023, he founded the Silulo Foundation, which supports entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs in township and rural communities through entrepreneurship development, skills training, mentorship and access to opportunities. The Foundation works with corporate, government, academic and ecosystem partners to strengthen the capacity of emerging entrepreneurs. 

Luvuyo is also an Executive Director of Africa Forward, an African-led movement focused on strengthening the social innovation ecosystem, creating jobs, influencing policy and mobilising more equitable funding for African-led solutions. He has been actively involved in shaping conversations around social entrepreneurship, the social economy, innovative finance, social procurement and the role of African leadership in development. 

His contribution to entrepreneurship and social innovation has been recognised through several awards, including the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year (2016), JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons (2014) and the National Productivity Awards (2012). 

Luvuyo is an Invest Cape Town Goodwill Ambassador, an Associate of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UCT, and was selected as a Top 100 Finalist in the Africa’s Business Heroes 2026 competition.
