Julia Pitman
Biography
Julia Pitman is an Assistant Director of Faculty-Directed Programs in the Global Education Office at Arizona State University (ASU), where she works with faculty and academic units to develop and deliver short-term, faculty-directed programs for students across the university. Her work includes program development, faculty support, student engagement, and the operational planning necessary to move global learning experiences from an idea to implementation.
Julia has more than 15 years of experience in higher education, with a career spanning student affairs, academic advising, and international education. Before joining ASU, she held positions at Southern Illinois University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where her work included new student orientation, housing and residence life, fraternity and sorority life, leadership development, and student activities. At ASU, she worked in student affairs and academic affairs before joining the Global Education Office in 2021.
In her current role, Julia has been involved in ASU’s growing portfolio of faculty-directed global programs, with several designed specifically for first-year students. Developed in partnership with academic colleges and units, these programs introduce students to global learning early in their university experience while creating opportunities for academic connection, community building, and engagement. Julia personally managed one of these first-year programs this past year and continues to support the development and delivery of programs across multiple academic disciplines.
Julia holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Education, specializing in Educational Administration and Higher Education, from Southern Illinois University. Her own international education experience includes studying abroad on a faculty-directed program in Kenya as a graduate student, then co-leading a faculty-directed program while she was an academic advisor. These experiences, combined with her work across multiple areas of higher education, inform her interest in how thoughtfully designed global experiences can contribute to students’ sense of connection, purpose, and success from the beginning of their university journey.
