Biography

Andrés Tabárez is Center Director at CIEE Barcelona. Andrés holds a Ph.D. in Classical Studies from the University of Barcelona (UB), where he worked as a researcher for the Department of Romance Languages between 2007 and 2016. Thanks to a four-year research grant awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain, parts of his doctoral dissertation were completed in Germany (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) and the UK (King’s College London). His dissertation on Virgil’s poetry received a unanimous summa cum laude from the panel and obtained an Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Andrés has participated in International Conferences on Latin literature, Translation Studies, and International Education, and has published research papers on Virgil and Virgilian tradition in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes. He also took part in the coordination of two encyclopedic dictionaries on Translation Studies and is the author of the book “Poeta Ludens: Humor and Play in Virgil’s Poetry” (Frankfurt, 2015). Andrés joined CIEE in 2015 as Program Coordinator, was promoted to the position of Academic Director in 2017 and became Barcelona Center Director in 2022. He is a native of Buenos Aires but has lived in Barcelona for over 20 years. His passions include reading, writing, swimming, and Italian cooking.
