Indigenous-Led Conservation and Ethical Experiential Learning

Indigenous communities around the world have long been stewards of biodiversity, employing Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) to sustain ecosystems and cultural landscapes. This session explores how study abroad programs can ethically engage students in Indigenous-led conservation efforts, fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchanges while respecting Indigenous sovereignty, knowledge systems, and community priorities. Through case studies and best practices, participants will gain insight into co-designed experiential learning models that empower students to support conservation initiatives responsibly and reciprocally.
