Angela Rothrock
Biography
Dr. Angela Rothrock is the Associate Director of the Center for Global Engineering Engagement and an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. Rothrock earned a doctorate in Educational Theory and Policy from Penn State, where she specialized in understanding the effects of gentrification in urban education and has extended this area of inquiry in her teaching of urbanization.
With nearly 20 years of experience in designing and leading customized programs, predominantly in the South Pacific, Rothrock has developed a broad range of faculty-led study abroad programs in the arts and engineering with sustainable development as a central theme. Her work in global programs is driven by an interest in learning from perspectives of multiple stakeholders and creating engaged learning opportunities for students in culturally and ethnically diverse communities.
In recent years, Rothrock’s attention has shifted from developing programs in the South Pacific to Latin America, where she is developing programs with Engineering colleagues to explore sustainable engineering solutions to contemporary social and environmental challenges. In these programs, Engineering students develop global competencies and professional skills while simultaneously expanding their technical knowledge to address the diverse needs of local and global communities.
