Biography
Samila currently serves as the Executive Director of International Education at Miami Dade College (MDC). In this role, she has made significant strides in enhancing student opportunities for global education. She also supports faculty and administrators in identifying and applying for various branches of Fulbright opportunities. As a Fulbright-Hays Fellow and Fulbright Liaison and Adviser for students, she brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her position.
Samila has played an instrumental role in implementing global virtual exchange through the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and IREX initiatives. She collaborates with the U.S. Embassy in Honduras on the COIL initiative, connecting U.S. and Central American institutions of higher education
She has been a key member of the team that secured numerous grants, including IDEAS, 100K Strong, YLAI, and Fulbright-Hays, to develop new programs and initiatives for the internationalization of the college.
Before her role at MDC, Samila worked at the University of Pittsburgh as the Director of International Services and Global Experiences Office for the Bradford campus. In this capacity, she led students on academic and cultural trips abroad and played a lead role in establishing exchange programs with international institutions of higher education. She also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Communications and the Arts. During her tenure, she was part of the leadership team for the prestigious Vira I. Heinz Scholarship for Women in Global Leadership and collaborated with the U.S. Department of Education on diverse initiatives and opportunities for students.
Samila holds an MFA from the Academy of Arts in San Francisco and an MBA from Eastern University. With a strong commitment to fostering global education and international partnerships, Samila continues to advance the mission of Miami Dade College to provide enriching global experiences for its students.
